Focuses on addressing poor academic performance and truancy coupled with a violence prevention and peace education curriculum as a means to prevent delinquency and initial involvement in the juvenile justice system. Services include individual and group counseling, academic assistance and tutoring, goal setting, leadership development and community service, cultural enrichment activities and artistic expression (including open rap sessions, and life skills workshops. It will target students at the participating schools who are at a higher risk of involvement in the juvenile justice system, including: absenteeism/truancy, disruptive behavior in class, poor academic records, and/or have a history of family problems.
